Dr. Timothy Leung and Dr. Tom Yuen are to be congratulated for having organized an exciting adventure into children’s lives through the Hong Kong Academy of Play Therapy. I am convinced play therapy is the most effective, efficient and developmentally appropriate mental health approach to helping children.
Child-centered play therapy is a culturally sensitive, dynamic process of utilizing children’s natural medium of expression, play, to build a therapeutic relationship with children that provides healing. The play therapist’s objective is to relate to children in ways that will help children utilize their inner-directed, constructive, forward-moving, creative, self-healing, life-changing, capacity. This counseling approach to working with children has by far the most evidence based research in the field of play therapy.
I am excited that Dr. Leung and Dr. Yuen have given of their talents and abilities to develop the Hong Kong Academy of Play Therapy, a place that believes deeply in the worth of children and is committed to providing the best play therapy training possible to mental health professionals. If you are a part of this training, you are a part of something bigger than yourself. Child-centered play therapists are committed to helping children and the process of changing their part of the world. Thank you for giving of yourself to help make children’s lives better, more satisfying, more enriching, and more complete.
